About Sheep Dog Impact AssistanceSheep Dog is not welfare. It is not long-term assistance or handouts. It is not a large bureaucracy. It is not governed by red tape. Sheep Dog is simply a desire to help people who need it, when they need it. Sheep Dog was founded by a military professional, and somewhat in the spirit of a Marine Corps Quick Reaction Force — a small, flexible and reactive relief force focused on responding to need in a timely and effective manner.
The basis for this effectiveness is in its leadership and members — military, emergency and law enforcement professionals. These are people who have both a natural desire to serve and protect their fellow citizens, as well as the training and skills to do so effectively. They are the muscle, backbone and heart of Sheep Dog.
Sheep Dog has three primary aims:
- To provide assistance to military, police, fire, and other emergency personnel and their families in times of hardship befallen due to their selfless service,
- To provide assistance to our neighbors in times of natural or human-inflicted disasters, and
- To provide information on Survival and Disaster preparedness. Our website is used as a means for collecting information on people in need and for providing useful tips on survival and disaster preparedness.
It is not large and bureaucratic; our efficiency is in our small, local and independent chapters with the ability to adjust plans as need requires. And it is not long-term assistance; we are structured to move in, provide an injection of lifeblood (Impact Assistance), and move out to make way for stabilizing programs.
It is not all-encompassing; we are not always first on the scene, or involved in every situation, but rather we strive to make the greatest impact possible with the resources at hand.
“Here is how the sheep and the Sheep Dog think differently. The sheep pretend the wolf will never come, but the Sheep Dog lives for that day. After the attacks on September 11, 2001, most of the sheep, that is, most citizens in America said, “Thank God I wasn’t on one of those planes.” The Sheep Dogs, the warriors, said, “Dear God, I wish I could have been on one of those planes. Maybe I could have made a difference.” When you are truly transformed into a warrior and have truly invested yourself into warriorhood, you want to be there. You want to be able to make a difference.” – On Sheep, Wolves, and Sheep Dogs – LtCol Dave Grossman (US Army), author of On Combat
